JenWarg_Cameroon Southwest Cameroon is home to the critically endangered Cross River Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla diehli) and the Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes vellerosus), two of the most vulnerable African great apes. Threats to these apes’ survival include agricultural encroachment, commercial logging, habitat and population fragmentation, and the bushmeat trade. The main goal of the Western Cameroon Great Apes Programme (WCGAP) is to develop participatory biodiversity management strategies in order to protect and conserve these primates.  In 2009, the Ulysses S. Seal Conservation Grant Program provided funding for Jen Warg, Interpretive Naturalist at the Minnesota Zoo, to travel to Cameroon to participate in this conservation program’s primate surveys and community education programs.JenWarg_Cameroon2
