Membership FAQs

How can I reserve a date and time for a visit?

Click here to reserve your tickets in advance of your visit. Your membership covers admission and parking, and logging into your online membership account will give you access to your reservation options. Your web login is the email address where you are receiving Zoo communications.

Are there any changes I need to know before my visit?

What Tips are there for Members reserving tickets?

Reservations must be reserved online in advance.

Your membership must be current on the date of your visit. Thank you in advance for your prompt renewal in order to secure your reservations.

For the safety of staff and guests, walk-ups cannot be accommodated at this time.

Login to your web account before selecting the date/time of your visit. This will give you access to the $0 Member Admission ticket option. Your username is your email address.

Everyone that is covered by your membership and visiting will need a ticket in advance. Reserve those covered by your membership level under Member Admissions, including your FREE guest(s) for the “PLUS” levels.

Children 0-2 are free, but require advanced reservations as well.

Your guests visiting with you above and beyond your membership coverage receive a $2/$1 discount on admission as a membership benefit. Once you are logged in and selecting the number of people you’re reserving for, you will see an option to purchase tickets at a discounted rate.

Is my membership refundable?

Memberships are nontransferable and nonrefundable.

I previously received a complimentary paper ticket. How can I use it?

Click here to complete an online form to reserve your date and time slot at least one week in advance of your planned visit.

Can I use my membership without my member card?

Valid membership cards are suggested for entry ease. Please stop by the Guest Services desk to verify your current membership account with a photo ID. Reservations to visit must be made ahead of time and print at home tickets will be requested upon entry. The Zoo reserves the right to check photo identification for adult cardholders.

Can I change my membership to a higher category?

Yes, you may upgrade your membership to a higher category at any time by calling 952.431.9304 or by visiting the Guest Services Desk upon your next visit.  The membership expiration date will remain the same and a fee will be charged for the difference in price.

Can my child/children come to the Zoo without the adult cardholders present?

If you have a Household or Household Plus membership, your dependent children (ages 21 and under) are members and can come in for free with your membership card, even if a parent is not present.  The Household membership doesn’t allow any free guests, but any additional guests not covered by your card would get a discount ($1 off children/seniors and $2 off teenagers/adults). The Household Plus membership allows a member to bring one free guest per membership per day. Under a Household Plus membership, your children are members so they are allowed to bring one free guest of choice with them even if the parent isn’t present. A nanny, babysitter or grandparent could be their guest. Any additional guests not covered by your Household membership card would get a discount ($1 off Children/Seniors and $2 off Adults).

Can my nanny or alternate caretaker be the free guest of my children if the cardholders aren’t present?

The Household Plus membership allows a member to bring one free guest per membership per day. Under a Household Plus membership, your children are members so they are allowed to bring one free guest of choice with them even if the parent isn’t present. A nanny, babysitter or grandparent could be their guest; please contact the membership office so we can add that frequent caretaker to your account. Any additional guests not covered by your Household Plus membership card would get a discount ($1 off Children/Seniors and $2 off Adults).

What is the difference between a Zoo Membership and Friends of the Minnesota Zoo?

Friends of the Minnesota Zoo is a giving society for those who donate $250 or more to the Minnesota Zoo Foundation. Friends of the Minnesota Zoo receive all of the benefits of membership, additional Friends benefits, PLUS two free guests each visit.  More Information

Does the Zoo have discounted memberships?

Discounted memberships are available when purchasing a quantity of 10 or more.

How soon can I use my membership when I purchase online or at the Zoo?

Your membership starts immediately. When you join online you will receive an e-mail confirmation to use as your temporary membership card during your Zoo visit.  Please log out and back in to your account to gain access to the $0 member admission tickets for your advance reservations to visit.

Can I purchase a membership as a gift for someone else?

Do members pay for parking?

No. Parking is free to members during regular Zoo hours. Members who attend concerts will be asked to pay for parking during that time.

Can I bring a guest to member events?

Member events are for members only.  If a friend would like to attend, they may purchase a membership prior to the event.  Membership PLUS categories which include additional guest(s) may bring guest(s) to member events.

How long does it take to receive my member cards?

Cards will arrive approximately one week from the time of purchase. Show your photo ID at guest services upon your visit and your membership can be looked up.

How many cards will I receive? 

You will receive a card for each named adult on the card.

Can I use my membership without my member card?

All guests must make a reservation ahead of time and will be able to apply their membership at the time of reservation online. Please present your reservation ticket at the time of entry. The Zoo reserves the right to check photo identification for adult cardholders. Replacement cards can be purchased at that time for a fee of $3.00 per card.

Can I change the names on my membership?

The names listed on a membership may be changed if there has been a change in the family’s circumstances, such as a death, move, or a change in relationship status. Name change requests, including the reason for change, must be sent in writing to the Minnesota Zoo, Membership Office, 13000 Zoo Blvd. Apple Valley, MN 55124 along with the original cards that were issued.

Is my membership payment tax deductible?

Yes. Your payment, less the fair market value of the benefits you receive, is deductible for income tax purposes. Under Internal Revenue Service guidelines, the estimated value of standard-level membership benefits is not substantial; therefore the full amount of your payment is a deductible contribution. The Minnesota Zoo’s Federal Tax ID # is 41-600-7162. Please contact the Zoo’s Membership Office at 952-431-9478 for additional information. For tax deduction information for Friends of the Minnesota Zoo program, call the Minnesota Zoo Foundation at 952-431-9447.
