It’s titi times three! We’re overjoyed to welcome “Otoño,” a Bolivian gray titi monkey born to parents Carroll and Beni on November 1, 2025. The name Otoño means ‘autumn’ in Spanish.
As is natural for their species, Carroll and Beni are true co-parents. Zookeepers say first-time dad Beni is very attentive and carries his child on his back about 90% of the day.
Titi monkeys are native to the tropical forests of Bolivia and Brazil. They are highly social animals who form tight family bonds – you might catch Carroll and Beni sitting together to groom each other and intertwine their tails.
As the parents cared for the baby, and male and female titi monkeys look alike, Animal Health and Care staff didn’t know the sex of the baby until Otoño was more than a month old. After passing a health exam with flying colors in mid-December, we know Otoño is a he.
Visit the titi monkeys in their habitat at the end of the Tropics Trail – they share the space with their tiny roommates, the pygmy marmosets. Please use soft voices when you say hello to Otoño as he gets used to his big, new world.
