Art for Animals

Join Zoo staff and local makers to create art that can be beneficial to you, Zoo animals, and wildlife!

Art for Animals: Enrichment Lab

Create projects with a purpose-to enrich Zoo animals’ lives! Build items to help keep Zoo animals’ brains and bodies healthy and encourage natural behavior. With Zoo staff and experienced Zoo volunteers, go behind-the-scenes at the Zoo’s Exhibit Shop to collaboratively build, paint, sand, and otherwise make literal art for animals in an informal, small-group setting. Best for people who like to jump right in and learn while doing. Dress for mess. Program fee helps cover the cost of project materials. Program schedule coming soon.

Art for Animals: Muse programs

Let nature be your muse while exploring different art styles and animal inspirations, with a local artist and Zoo naturalist as your guides. From painting to papermaking, fiber arts to flower pressing, jewelry to journaling, and storytelling to sun printing… there are endless opportunities to explore the artistic world and the wildlife that inspires it. Projects prioritize Zoo animals and sustainability whenever possible. All materials provided unless otherwise specified. Program schedule coming soon.

Birding & Nature Walks

Join a Zoo naturalist for an exclusive opportunity to look and listen for local birds and signs of other wildlife before the Zoo opens. Stroll the Treetop Trail, other Zoo trails, and/or staff-only trails and wooded areas in a small-group setting. Learn what’s been spotted at the Zoo, help add to our wildlife species lists, and find out how the Zoo supports birds, both locally and globally. Great for beginners and enjoyable for experienced birders alike. Program schedule coming soon.

Guided Tours

Join a naturalist-guided interactive walking tour to share information and stories about Zoo animals and conservation efforts…and perhaps a peek behind-the-scenes. Each tour highlights a different Zoo trail and a unique theme, with time for questions throughout the tour and chances to share your own animal knowledge and stories.
