Let nature be your muse while exploring different art media and animal inspirations, with a local artist and Zoo naturalist as your guides.

Art for Animals*

From painting to papermaking, fiber arts to flower pressing, jewelry to journaling, and storytelling to sun printing… there are endless opportunities to explore the artistic world and the wildlife that inspires it. Projects prioritize sustainability whenever possible. All materials provided unless otherwise specified. No experience necessary; all skill levels welcome.

Muse: Bison

Date/Time: Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 1-3:30 p.m.
Art Medium: wool
Celebrate bison and Minnesota’s imperiled prairie ecosystems through art- on National Bison Day! Explore bison’s connection to other prairie animals, visit the Zoo’s bison, and delve into the science of felting. Using simple techniques and wool from sheep at the Zoo’s farm, create a custom wet-felted animal decoration to take home. Great for all skill levels - keep it unembellished or add enhancements to make a unique reminder of these awesome prairie animals.
Class fee: $55 for members, $65 for non-members (Zoo admission is included)
Materials fee: $5 per participant
Artist: Tracy Crofoot | Fiber Artist & Naturalist with over 20 years’ experience

*Teacher/Educator Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for professional development available for participants upon request.
