The acclaimed Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular will make its debut at the Minnesota Zoo this October 2018. An enchanted forest, nestled in the heart of the Zoo, plays host to this strolling exhibit. The trail features over 5,000 illuminated pumpkins of all different sizes, shapes and faces creatively carved and displayed from ground to tree-top. A variety of musical vignettes and fog make the perfect back drop for a special date night or family-friendly, fall outing.

We are also introducing timed line entry on our busiest days, Fridays and Saturdays (as well as the Wednesday and Thursday of MEA), to help you plan your evening and minimize time spent waiting in line.
Friday and Saturday night tickets will be available for purchase at 7 pm, 8 pm, 9 pm and 10 pm. Don’t worry if you purchased your tickets before the change—your previously purchased ticket allows you to line up with the entry time that is being admitted when you arrive.

What are the dates for the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular?
Thursday, October 4 through Wednesday, October 31, 2018 Please note that the entire Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular experience is outdoors. Guests should dress appropriately for the weather.

Are there any discounts for members?
Minnesota Zoo Members receive Value Night pricing every night, including Friday and Saturday. To receive member pricing for online tickets, all members must log into their online member account. Reciprocal memberships do not apply.
Are tickets timed?
On our peak event nights—Fridays, Saturdays and October 17 and 18 for MEA—we are selling timed tickets.
What is the wait time to get on the pumpkin trail?
The Zoo doors will open at 5:00 pm and the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular trail will open at 7:00 pm.

To avoid lines and wait times, we encourage people, especially those with little ones, to arrive early; especially on weekend nights. Value nights are also a great option for families with small children. Once in the experience, you are welcome to enjoy the trail at your leisure. Most people take 45-60 minutes to go through the path.

Do you offer any group discounts?
Group discounts are available with an advanced purchase of 15 or more admissions. Save $2 off Adult, $1 off Child (3-12 yrs.) and Seniors (65+) when you bring a group. To purchase tickets or for more information please call Minnesota Zoo Group Ticket Sales 952.431.9298. Tickets MUST be purchased a minimum of 4 days ahead of the date requested to allow for shipping of the printed tickets.
Is there a fee for parking?
There is no additional fee for parking while attending Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. Parking fee is applicable during Zoo hours 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Is there accessible parking?
YES. If the spots are not available, drivers may drive up to the Zoo entrance and drop off passengers. Stroller and wheelchair rentals are available at night on a first-served basis. The trail is fully wheelchair accessible.
Is there an ATM?
Yes, there are ATM’s inside the Zoo.
Is this event child-friendly?
This seasonal event aims to delight and amaze, not to scare anyone. Children who are sensitive to a lot of visual and sound stimulus might not be comfortable. In addition, there is a walk to and from the Zoo entrance and to the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. It is highly likely that you will spend some time in line getting to the start of the pumpkin trail. Only you know if this is suitable for your child.  Sensory Assessment.
Is the Spectacular weather dependent?
Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is open rain or shine. In the case of light to moderate rain, the event will be open. There will be no refunds or rescheduling. Minnesota Zoo management will close the event if there is a threat of heavy rain and high winds. Patrons who purchased advance tickets may come another evening only when Minnesota Zoo cancels the event. Please note Value Night ticket holders wanting to reschedule for Prime Nights will incur the additional fee for Prime Nights. Please call in advance, check the website or visit Facebook for updates. Please be advised that when the trail is open, we will NOT refund tickets.
Will animals be out for the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular?
No. The focus of the event will be the new pumpkin trail. Animals will only be out during daytime hours.
How long does it take to go through the Spectacular?
Once you arrive at the entrance to the pumpkin trail, near the Conservation Carousel, it takes about 45 – 60 minutes to walk through the pumpkin display. Wait time to enter the show may vary depending on attendance.
Can I buy my tickets online?
Yes. Buying your ticket online will allow for a faster entry. A separate scanning line is available for online ticket holders. *Tickets are ONLY valid for the date selected and tickets are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled
Can I use my credit card to buy Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular tickets?
Yes, we will accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards.
Can I buy my tickets for the Spectacular in advance?
Yes, you may buy individual tickets online any time. Please remember that group tickets require advanced purchase. *Tickets are ONLY valid for the date selected and tickets are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled
Can I purchase a combination ticket for the Zoo and the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular?
No, combination tickets are not available. The daytime Zoo experience is from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. The Zoo will close at 4:00 pm and reopen at 5:00 pm for the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. The Zoo is not open between 4:00 – 5:00 pm.
Can I take photos and/or videos of the Spectacular?
We do not allow flash photography, tripods, monopods or selfie sticks as a courtesy and safety measure. Otherwise, yes, you may take pictures and video as long as you do not impede viewing or the flow of traffic on the trail.
Do you allow strollers, wheelchairs or wagons on the exhibit trail?
Guests may use strollers, wheelchairs, and wagons on the exhibit trail. The trail is fully accessible.
Can I smoke inside the Spectacular exhibit?
There is no smoking anywhere in the Zoo at any time. The entire Minnesota Zoo is smoke free. We do not allow e-cigarettes.
I am a Minnesota Zoo member but I forgot my card, can you look me up in the database?
Yes. For a faster entry during daytime Zoo hours please have your member cards and photo ID with you. If you are just visiting Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, please bring your print at home tickets with you for entry or purchase tickets upon arrival.
I am a Minnesota Zoo member. Can my guests also receive the Member Value Pricing on Friday and Saturday?
The member benefits apply to those covered under your membership level.
Can I buy a Minnesota Zoo membership at night at the event?
Yes. Please note for this event the ticket fee for Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is not able to be applied to the membership purchase.
How many pumpkins are there?
There are about 5,000 pumpkins on display all lit with LED lights.
Who carves the pumpkins?
Passion for Pumpkins from Oxford, MA designs the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, and carves the over 5,000 illuminated pumpkins you see on the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular Trail. Founded by John Reckner, Passion for Pumpkins is a professional multi-media company run by the Reckner family and close friends. Passion for Pumpkins produces shows around the country.
How do they keep the pumpkins in good shape for this long of an event?
They keep carving and enhancing the displays throughout the life of the show. The carvers expect to go through about 20,000 pumpkins during the course of the 28-night run.
What happens to the proceeds from the event?
Proceeds from the event will support the Zoo’s animal care, environmental education, and conservation efforts both locally and around the globe.
Can I bring in food and beverage?
No food or beverage allowed from outside. Bags subjected to being searched.
What type of pumpkin breeds are used for Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular?
The breeds of pumpkins used for the artistic pumpkins are Big Macs and Prize Winners. They weigh about 100-250lbs. Atlantic Giant breeds, from Minnesota and Wisconsin, will also be used. Weighing up to 2,000lbs!
