Apple Valley, MN – September 11, 2015: To honor the fallen of the September 11 tragedy in 2001, the Minnesota Zoo will participate in the National Day of Service and host an all-day community volunteer service event on-site. Volunteers are scheduled to help create animal enrichment for the 4,700+ animals at the Zoo, spruce up areas of the 485-acre campus and prepare learning materials for the Zoo’s many educational programs.

Participating volunteers come from various backgrounds including corporate groups, Zoo donors and members, current and past Zoo volunteer and others from the community. Each year more than 1,100 volunteers contribute more than 113,000 hours of service to the Minnesota Zoo. “Our volunteers are so important to the Zoo. They are utilized throughout the organization and help spread our mission of connecting people, animals and the natural world to save wildlife. They are incredible, passionate people and we thank them,” says Sheri White-Commers, Minnesota Zoo Director of Volunteer Services.
