Day in the Life of Virtual Camp

What does a “Virtual Summer Camp session” look like?

Each week-long virtual camp runs Monday through Friday via Zoom. Each session begins with a live, interactive activity with a Zoo naturalist and includes a live visit to a Zoo exhibit or with an ambassador animal. Time is given for campers to explore nature around them through at-home activities, followed by additional live interactions.

What type of activities will campers experience?

Interactive activities include live visits to Zoo exhibits, games, drawing, building structures, and seeing unique biofacts like skulls, feathers, and pelts from the Minnesota Zoo’s biofact library. Daily at-home activity packets are emailed each morning and include 1-2 hours of activities such as crafts, engineering challenges, citizen science activities, stories, and pre-recorded animal videos.

Will campers engage with any animals?

Yes! Each day, campers will be taken on a live virtual visit to engage with one of our exhibits or animal ambassadors with a Zoo naturalist as a guide.

How long does each camp session last?

Camps are one week long with different times for each age group (see below), with a mix of live and at-home activities scheduled throughout the day.

Will there be any on-site summer camp activities at the Zoo?

YES! As part of your virtual camp experience, we are offering you FREE tickets to the Zoo for one adult and one child for a Sunday or Monday during the month of camp you signed up for. There will be a table with educational activities, giveaways, photo scavenger hunt, etc. for campers on Sundays from 1-4 pm and Mondays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. You will be sent an email after you register for camp with that information.
