Leave Minnesota weather for an evening and join us in the Tropics!
We’re not just a zoo; we’re the Minnesota Zoological Garden. Botanists and plant-lovers, come on out to learn more about the amazing variety of plants along our Tropics Trail. With the zoo closed to the public, you’ll get a unique tour led by one of our horticulturalist staff, as you discover plants native to exotic locale around the world but raised right here in the Zoo’s greenhouses. How do you keep tropical plants alive in Minnesota’s climate? Where do our plants come from? What makes these trees and flowers special? What are some of the special challenges of designing a garden for monkeys and pigs to use? No matter how much you know about plants, this tour will be an exciting chance to see our beautiful Tropics Trail like you’ve never seen it before.
“It was a very fun and informative tour. I also enjoyed seeing the zoo when no one else was around – it gave me an entire new perspective. And, knowing all that goes into the operations, design and planning makes it even more interesting the next time I visit.” – A participant in the August 2015 tour
