Minnesota Zoo’s Aveda Butterfly Garden to Open June 19
Apple Valley, MINN – June 16, 2010 – The Minnesota Zoo’s annual Aveda Butterfly Garden, featuring more than 40 species of North American butterflies and moths ranging from the well-known Monarch to the Sleepy Orange, opens for the season on Saturday, June 19 (weather permitting). Zoo guests can join hundreds of colorful butterflies fluttering in a lush, green environment that includes a small stream and diversity of plants. The exhibit demonstrates the butterfly life cycle, including stages as a caterpillar, chrysalis or cocoon, and adult. Zoo staff and volunteers will explain butterfly “duties” including pollination, and egg-laying. The Aveda Butterfly Garden will be open daily through Sept. 6 (weather permitting) from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and is located at the end of the Tropics Trail path. Entrance to the garden is free with regular Zoo admission.
