Apple Valley, MINN – September 21, 2016

Today, modern zoos are changing as rapidly as our world. While zoos were once simply menageries that housed caged animals, great zoos today, like the Minnesota Zoo, focus on the mental and physical needs of the animals in their care, on connecting zoo guests to amazing species and the natural world, and on fighting extinction and saving wildlife. Vice President for Biological Programs Kevin Willis will be discussing the role and relevance of the modern zoo and sharing his thoughts on how zoos can prevent endangered species from disappearing forever.

“When you think about the fact that three rhinos are killed every day in parts of the world, you realize that the wild isn’t so wild anymore,” says Minnesota Zoo CEO/President, John Frawley. “Zoos are needed today more than ever. I am excited this discussion is happening and that our young advocates group, AZUL, is leading the charge.”
