The Minnesota Zoo’s photography programs includes sessions perfect for photography beginners, professional photographers, and everyone in between.  Learn tips and tricks-of-the-trade from a photography expert, and take advantage of the chance to see and photograph the Zoo’s animals without the crowds. Every class will include time in one area of the Zoo when the Zoo is closed to the public. A Zoo naturalist will also be present at each program, to answer all of your animal questions and share fun facts and insider stories about the trail of the day!

Each session offers a new focus and the chance to visit a new area of the Zoo – bring your cameras and come back often!

Photography at the Zoo is a partnership with District 196 Community Education.

Overcoming Low Light in Discovery Bay

Shooting indoors often brings the challenge of overcoming low light – but that doesn’t need to keep you from getting the perfect shot! We’ll come in out of the rain for this class to explore different options for overcoming dark and low-light scenarios, including different ISO settings, shutter speeds, and flash options. The class will be a combination of classroom time and time in Discovery Bay to practice shooting in that area’s dimmer lighting, and to practice shooting through glass. In addition to photographing our live sharks, sea turtles, rays, seals, coral, and more, we’ll bring out a variety of intriguing ocean biofacts (like glossy turtle shells, shark jaws, and sea urchins) for you to play with and arrange for more photos – and even take a quick trip behind-the-scenes for even more photo ops! With plenty of opportunities to ask questions and practice your new ideas, you’ll head home with skills for photography indoors and out.

Topic has changed to Discovery Bay (instead of Northern Trail) due to pending rain/storms predicted for Saturday’s class.
