Backstage Pass: Llamas

You’ve heard the puns, you’ve seen them on t-shirts, and you know they spit (but do they really?). Now meet the real things!

What does it take to get our herd of llamas ready for the day? Help our animal care staff open the Llama Trek habitat for the day and find out.

After we drive behind the scenes and meet our herd of llamas, we will put you to work. But walking your favorite llama to and around their habitat is one chore no one will pass on. As you introduce yourself to the llamas, also enjoy time feeding them treats and taking as many selfies as you can handle. You’ll also see the guinea pigs wake up and eat their breakfast.

While you’re enjoying your time with the animals, you’ll also learn about some of the Minnesota Zoo’s conservation projects in South America, including saving wild chinchillas in South America.

Notes:
• This program involves walking down a hill over uneven, natural terrain.
• The Zoo is not a nut-free environment as nuts are a regular part of our animal diets and may be used during animal demonstrations and programs as positive reinforcement.
*The Zoo will be closed when you arrive, so please wait by the bison statue near the main south entrance and staff will meet you there.
